Christmas Decoration Envy...

Yes, I have it. Yes, I'm that shallow.
If I knew exactly where Jane lived (we live in same postcode, I believe....or nearby neighbourhood anyway) then this may be the first time I'd ever steal anything!
I can so see this knitted nativity scene in Chez La Femme.
Salvation Jane has been a very welcome addition to the blogosphere in 2011 - in my humble opinion - go check it out here. Stylish, colourful, funny, irreverant; worth browsing.

Aggghhh!!

image; ari seth cohen

Ok, so I feel just slightly overwhelmed this festive season....and here was I bragging in November about getting ahead this Christmas. My mind is a little skewhiff at the moment, with the demands of life, but that's fine. I just think of this glorious 100 year old (yes, I said 100 year old) beauty found on the Advanced Style blog.
I love what Ari Seth Cohen does - honestly, my heart swells with every image; beautiful, lively creatures in their so-called 'twilight years' - glorious! Inspires me to embrace change, live a full life and rock it until you can't rock it anymore. x

Happy Birthday Lucy!

image; i have absolutely no idea as to where this came from, but even without people sitting at the table, it looks like just the kinda party i'd love to attend! dim the lights, put on the music and bring out the champagne!

Oh, what the heck....she is great at letting people know about Melbourne's fabulous design community, but when it comes to details about her good self, she is a little shy. I am not about to give away all that makes up Lucy Feagins, but I want to wish her a happy birthday. She is a generous, caring, loving little soul who deserves a big shout-out for her skills in the friendship sphere.
i love the girl.

Wishing you a fabulous year, Ms Design Files - keep inspiring!

Sartorialist Love

Once again I am going through my online photos, tidying files and just generally seeing what I have and why. I noticed that I had a few pics from The Sartorialist that rang my bells when I looked at them. So here they are, with an explanation of why I saved them...

1. The pic above was taken on 13th st in NYC, the very street I lived in for 3 yrs (btwn A & B - East Village). I can't say I know this bloke, but I suddenly got a tinge of Manhattan love and longing when I saw his beautifully happy face.

2. All about the style, people. The way you wear something. This look is quite different to mine, I wouldn't be wearing heels like this around Brunswick st, that's for sure. But the chicness, the long, lush hair, the big sunglasses, the way this woman carries herself takes my breath away. And the handbag is divine.

3. Again, how chic. Oooo I love me some capri pants and flats, sleeveless shirts....mmmm. I love the thought of riding a bike...but never do it (!) and short hair cuts rock, as far as I'm concerned. Can't remember where this was taken, but I was immediately transported to Paris.

4. This is what I aspire to in a throw-it-together and look amazing kind of sense. The confidence just oozes from this woman, doesn't it? How beautiful is she? How beautiful is this image?! Red is my favourite colour and this coat is so perfectly cut. If I had legs like this, I'd be showing them too.

And That was the Week That Was...

image; unknown...sorry...

....Good Grief, where did it go?!

Pardon my sporadic blogging nature of late, there have been many positive developments in rehab-land which has meant that I have been needed at the hospital far more.
Today L'Homme's occupational therapist comes to look at Chez Trbuhovich to see what modifications will be needed before he comes home. A very exciting step indeed. Yes, it is a long road, but I can't help thinking how different this story could've been...

Kate James, who we have worked with in the past and has since become a dear friend (don't you love when that happens?) wrote a beautiful blog post over the weekend regarding our situation - her take on it. You can read it here.

Wishing you a wonderful week, thanks for your love and support; I feel surrounded by it.
So fortunate.

A Happy Home Indeed!

image; belinda g for the happy home blog
I can't believe it has taken me this long to show you the mini hallway makeover Belinda Graham created on her blog The Happy Home. This Mother, Wife, writer, journalist and all around fun girl somehow manages to find time to blog about her home projects - of which this is one. (Actually, I am always asking her how she finds time to do the actual home projects!)
And not only am I showing you because she uses one of my very favourite combinations - black and white stripes - but on her little gallery wall (close your eyes, Rockin Raina!!!) she has included a vintage mini poster; the gorgeous point of purchase sale piece for Parapluie Revel by Leonetto Cappiello from 1922....truly vintage....which she found through Galmont.
I love the way she has simply pegged it onto her wall.
Good job, B!

Ducky Love

image; mirka and lavablaine, captain kk

I leave you this week with a gorgeous image of delightful Mirka enjoying her new mini vintage poster. Mirka's Mama, Captain kk, is one cool blogger. She is also kind and thoughtful. When she commented about the image I used at Easter time on this blog, I knew that it had to go home with her. So I organised for that to happen - Captain tells the story here...

Have a wonderful weekend, friends.

Total Balance et Moi

image; le rouge baiser, gruau, c1950; michelle belle for galmont
Someone thought me worthy enough of a little interview, but of course, I talk too much.....so what should be a little interview has turned into something slightly bigger! Anyway, you can pop over to Kate's blog and see what I am talking about right here.

A quick background, Kate is Kate James, business and life coach, meditation teacher and owner of Total Balance, now a beautiful friend. L'Homme and I sought out her assistance at a hectic time in our lives to keep our business on track...

I love Kate's blog, it is always a calm haven in amongst all the fun and stuff in my google reader.

Urban Flea Reads Me and That Makes Me Happy!

image; urban flea blog via www.abiabiabi.com

I have followed Katherine's blog for sometime now, so it was with much delight that I noticed she had something to say about the design sensibility of one Femme D M today. She believes we share a mind when it comes to aesthetics. The image above is the one that moved me to leave a comment on Urban Flea, Katherine said she could live in this room and of course, I could too. So, so much that I saved the image to share with you sometime in the future. Unbeknownst to me, The Flea was blogging away about the 'Be Nice or Leave' pillow I posted on Monday.

Well, after some snooping, it seems that The Flea and I also share a star sign, a love for the colour grey with lovely yellow accents (is red your other colour accent love, by chance, Katherine?), the French language and movies that have Johnny Depp in them...

Ummm, we definitely do not share an age bracket!

If you haven't checked out the Urban Flea, I strongly suggest you do.
Thanks for your kind words, Katherine.

I can't believe that it has been almost a month since I won this wonderful, wonderful collection of bits from Megan Morton to celebrate the release of her interiors book, 'Homelove'.
I haven't yet had a chance to publicly thank the gorgeous MM. I was one of ten lucky people to win some of her favourite things via The Design Files. I was sooooo excited! This package arrived at the very right time for me. It was seriously like a piece of love sent via the post; just fabulous, like the architects of the competition. Thanks so much, Megan and Lucy!

Pssst...Beci Orpin...

image; via beci orpin blog

...you know how you're really enjoying your new book 'The Language of Graphics"?

image; via beci orpin blog
Well, if you drop by Galerie Montmartre sometime, you can actually see some of these images for real! Honest, promise!
And while I'm at it....a quick note for Rockin' Raina who was talking about how 'vintage is now', along with the following image, a few blogposts ago...

Well, see the little chimpanzee cycling in the left hand corner? We had him at Galmont up until about a month ago, when a discerning customer handed over their money and took it home!
Oh, how I love to spy vintage posters in blogs.

Feel-the-Love Friday

Comme Nicolas by Peyonet, circa 1950. image; michelle our belle for galmont

It's so nice to be loved, isn't it?! I've been feeling the bloglove lately, more comments and interactions with dear readers and, it seems, a few bloggers liking what we do at Galmont. I've become aware of some fairly recent posts that have been written regarding us and our posters.

Many thanks to;

- Gorgeous Belinda at The Happy Home, her blogpost here;

-Darling Fitzroyalty who gave our community bookshelf a little bit of attention here;

- Fresco Creative blog has a little bit to say here;

- and that Crafty Minx, Kelly, is apparently a fan of Galmont too, read here.

Enjoy your weekend, friends, will see you back next week. x

Hurrah! Femme Gets a Facelift!

Look how beautiful and shiny lovely Femme de Montmartre is looking!
Thanks to Pip for her gorgeousness and generosity and thanks to all of you for voting.

As you can see via my very sophisticated methods featured in the photo below; number 3 header was the winner by quite a substantial amount. I am thrilled with the outcome.
And then, in the very same sophisticated manner (ie. torn up scraps with voter names written on them) I randomly chose a winner who is
Camilla at Designalogue Blog!
You take home this gorgeous girl, Camilla, please contact me via my email (galerie.montmartre at gmail.com) and I will see that this gets to you. Congratulations!!

Friday Fun - Thanks Raina!

joker by auriac, 1958; photo, stephan t for galmont

I am so thrilled to have discovered 'If The Lampshade Fits', Raina's 'snarky' (as she puts it...at least I think it was her?!) persona has me laughing on a regular basis. Although an American living in Colorado, I swear she must have some Australian heritage somewhere, as her sense of humour, the way she views life via her blog and her ability to poke fun at herself reminds me so much of my Aussie mates.
This post has had Michelle our Belle (that would be our assistant-extraordinaire) and I laughing aloud, the comments are too funny. Seriously, I urge you to jump over and have a quick look.
Hope you get plenty of laughs this weekend.

Don't forget to put in your point of view for the Femme de Montmartre header....two days and the vote closes. Thanks to all those who have contributed, I love hearing from you!

Hanging to Play in this Room

I love what Suki has done for little Varpu; yes the room was created for a baby, but this Femme could easily hang out on the mass of cushions all day long staring up at her Eames Hang-It-All. (Note To Self; start saving so I can stare at one of my own...) Check out the entire blogpost here.

Pip to the (Interim) Rescue and a Giveaway!

1.

2.

3.

I've had some great conversations with retail and blog friends about the importance of sharing knowledge and how some lovely creatives are a little reluctant to do it in case someone steals an idea or does something even better etc. I'm of the opinion that chatting things over and sharing ideas can only help your own creative process. Oh believe me, I used to keep things to myself for fear of being ripped off.....never told a soul about my desire to have a yellow and grey room as a teenager, for example! But as I've become older, more self assured perhaps, that attitude has g.o.n.e.
I think Pip over at Meet Me at Mike's comes from the same school of thinking as myself. After this post, I had an email arrive and the gorgeous thing had provided me with some headers, until mine had been sorted. I mean, how is that for generosity?! It's not like the girl has a book to write, a blog to run, a retail space and a family that needs her attention. Oh no, she is going to help this little Femme get her teensy blog looking schmick.
God I love that girl, her enthusiasm and zest for life and others is inspiring. Thanks so much, Pip!
So, now over to you, dear readers - I am going to use one of these blog headers while I get my own act together. I would love to hear which you like the best, please leave a comment with either 1, 2 or 3 (and a comment, if you so desire!) and whichever has the most votes will be the one used. And I am going to choose someone at random, for taking the trouble and send a little vintage love courtesy of Galerie Montmartre. February 28th is the closing date. Hurrah! (That's my cyber impression of Pip!!!)

Love in Bloom 2010

valentine's day dinner party flowers at chez trbuhovich

i love turquoise and orange....was patting myself on the back all night over this combination!

the morning after, all dishes were cleared - except for the dessert plates - and you don't have to look too closely to see the grubby fingermarks all over the almosyt empty carafe; which speaks of a 'successful' dinner party to me!! all images; shelley t

We hosted some gorgeous friends on February 14th. It just so happened that Valentine's Day was the time we could all get together. So, what to choose flower-wise? I knew that I wanted roses, but not necessarily red ones and I also knew that I wanted to fill one of our French champagne buckets with a little floral number; so hydrangeas with a contrasting orange hued rose was what I chose. I had fun putting them together.

I always think I'd love a house full of flowers, but the reality is, I spend the 'kitty' on magazines instead. So on the odd occasion when there is bouquets at every turn in Chez Trbuhovich, I feel extra happy.
