My Place and Your's - Bedside

yes, they're my slippers underneath, always kept in the same place...I have winter ones and summer ones, both gifts from rellies who know how much I adore them, i'd wear them to galmont if i could.

it's imperative i have a neat and tidy bedside, waking up to a bedside mess puts me in a cranky mood. the tivoli clock radio was my gift to l'homme for an extra special birthday, which has sat on my side since petit-petit arrived.

Ooo, this is a bit intimate, don't you think?! The latest theme for Pip's meme chosen by lovely Lexi over at Potty Mouth Mama. So here's mine, the usual mish-mash of books, lamp, clock radio and little dish full of change and lip balm. I looked for a side table for about seven years, the perfect wooden cube (I really wanted one on wheels) and it was Ikea that came through for only $40.00 - gotta love that!

I am soooooooo excited about this! As a result of reading this post by Holly over at the inspirational Decor 8, I knew that a community bookshelf would completely work at Galmont. Fitzroy is a diverse, energetic, inner-city hub think East Village if in NYC or Surry Hills if you know Sydney - a little bit grimey and proud of it! I knew that this idea would be simple to start up and add to our 3065 postcode at the same time. Thanks to the gorgeous Philip Graham for the shoerack/bookcase.

Within minutes of putting it all together, a young student came by elated that he didn't have to buy a literature text, Ibsen, was waiting just for him. Someone else asked L'Homme if he had read the Faulkner book, because she had heard it was a beauty. And we were greeted by the squeals of a very excited woman on Sunday who had finally found a text she had been looking for all her adult life! I could sit and watch people interacting with that bookcase all day.

Good one, Fitzroy, I knew you could do it!

I'm going to speak to a few more Fitzroy lovely creatives in the future to see if they want to jump on the Community Bookshelf wagon and make our little 'burb the book swapping capital of Australia!

On the Shelf - My place and Your's

this shelf is actually twice as long as what is shown, it came out of a hardware store, perfect for petit-petit's bits and pieces. Here's a close up of top shelves incl. artwork (i drew the bird pic as a 3yr old, my mum saved it and gave it to me as a gift); family photos (that's l'homme front left and me front right), the little dolls top left were also mine, the spools were found at a flea market and have graced many shelves!

we paid $20 for this shelf in nyc 26th st flea markets a gazillion years ago, the woman couldn't believe someone was actually buying it, we couldn't believe we'd found a cute shelf with l'homme's name emblazoned across the top! i think it's called a win-win. this shelf has lived all around the place, but has found it's final resting place in petit's room.

I think I am about to break a promise here. You see, I've been doing a bit of - in the words of styling guru, Megan Morton - 'house-whispering' lately. I decided that the shelves that were in the Garcon's rooms needed shifting around. A simple, but very affective decision, I must say, both the little guys have noticed and are loving it. Petit is able to curate his current obsessions (ie. his personal art work, shells and AFL (footy) cards - we do live in Melbourne after all, that damn game never seems to go away!!) and Petit-Petit can reach the things he loves the most (ie. wooden animals and books - neither seen in these photos).

So then Pip comes up with an idea that we all have some blogging fun by becoming part of the meme series 'My place and your's'. The first topic - 'On the Shelf' - which is where the broken promise bit comes in, cause I'm sure a few posts back I promised to never harp about Chez Trbuhovich again....please forgive me. I really should never say never!

Kat Macleod Joy!

I went along to the first night of 'Slight Inclusions' tonight to get a glimpse of Kat Macleod's gorgeous illustrations. Ohhhhh, so much to enjoy!

I really enjoy the 'simplicity' of the mediums used - pencil, collage and watercolours, it is so joyous. Almost like sophisticated child-play, and I mean that with the deepest respect, it just makes me smile so much! In fact, I noticed smiles on the those who were there; stepping in closer to take in the hint of sequins or pleating of paper or examining the expression on the lovely women's faces. The place was packed and I walked away with a sassy little piece just for me - my feminine addition to testosterone filled Chez Trbuhovich - simply called 'Undress'. Will reveal all when I bring her home in November. So joyful!

Monday's Mail

I love a mail delivery, especially when it is from France and especially when it is this pretty! I mean, even the stamps are gorgeous - so gorgeous, in fact that I grabbed the nearest camera and took some pics for you lovely people.

I cannot wait to do my dishes with these glorious little tea towels. Really!

We got this spunky new poster in Galmont last week, on first appearances it might look like a cute image of a bird carrying some wine. And it is. But the other thing we've learnt is that this bird is actually a thrush. This particular bird comes in many varieties in France, which is exactly why Georget chose to use it to represent that Lagrive have many types of wines. Unless you are a budding ornithologist or a wine buff, I have a feeling you wouldn't have known that!!

After a delightful day with Ms. G and then attempting to draft an important document back at Galmont, I returned to Chez Trbuhovich a little low on energy. However, that quickly changed when I noticed the latest issue of Dumbofeather waiting on the doorstep in all it's recycled glory!

I love a story, particularly in relation to lovely creatives; I'm interested in what makes people tick, where they come from, where they're going, what's important to them, the development of their area of interest - with Dumbofeather, I meet five people who give me a good yarn. It may be an artist, a midwife, a charity worker, an entrepreneur, a teacher; I don't care, I just love their stories!

I am grateful to Kate James for switching me onto this publication, after reading my first copy cover to cover, I immediately back-ordered the 15 odd 'mooks' (is it a magazine? is it a book?) I had missed. I try to read a story every couple of days, as I find it's like a little battery charger for the soul. So, dear ones, it is time for me to immerse myself in Issue Twenty-one - Ahhhh!

My very dear and oldest friend, Natalie, and her business partner, Kathy - also known as Nat and Kat - are owners of The Cupcake Wrapper Co. I'm so excited to see that they have released their first range; Australian designed and made, stylish, eco-packaged and - having seen the actual product with my very eyes today - superb quality.

Congratulations girls, I am sure that you will be taking the cupcake loving world by storm!

We have loved this new addition to our book family. Witty, informative and colourful; what more does a kid with an interest in the world and words need? Judging by the amount of times we have read the story so far and the smiles on Petit's face, I would say, not much.

Our Web, Our Day

Happy One Web Day! Apparently it's a day to think about the importance of the web in our lives. I must admit, the older I get, the more important it is becoming. I like my 'cyber friend'.

I will be celebrating this inauspicious occasion down at Arthur's Circus tonight, checking out some beautiful photographs at the milkbars, laundromats and urban beauty exhibition.

Fun to be had, I'm quite sure I'll come home with something....all in the name of celebrating One Web day, of course!

How lovely. I immediately thought of this vintage poster as I read the actual post.

Creative Women's Circle - Monique McNamara & Jessie Fairweather

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed drinking in the creativity of some very talented women at Creative Women's Circle on Saturday morning. I mean, I was sitting between some lovely creatives before anyone even opened their mouths! (ie. shannon, susan and tess, better known in blogland as aunty cookie, spin spin handmade and metremade)

Monique McNamara started proceedings speaking about her eco-design business Up and Up Creative...now, there is eco and there is ECO, and this woman is definitely the latter, having set up her business 12 years ago when she realised that her concern for sustainability and eco-friendly practices were not being met elsewhere. There was a million things she said, a million notes I wrote, but really, this quote pretty much sums up where Ms. McNamara comes from "This is why we're here - we're here to innovate." (Oh, and if she isn't busy enough directing her company she is also a founding member of The Gertrude Association.)

Jessie Fairweather is all the things in a person I tend to gravitate towards, because it is so far from who I am (!) - calm, considered, organised, determined and calm. (oh sorry, did I say that already?!) This girl had a dream and ran with it, studying graphic design in Europe before returning to Australia, writing her ideas for three months and then creating her company 'The Foundry'. 'Measure' seems like an extremely apt title for Jessie's latest project, written in five languages, it consists of every conceivable measuring chart from seasonal foods through to the lunar calendar. I am predicting world domination from her little space in Daylesford, quite frankly.

Well done, Tess McCabe on another great meeting, keep the inspiration coming!

We love Mondays! L'Homme, the Petits and myself always go to a local cafe for lunch and watch the world go by. I was so drawn to this image of a Swedish eatery in the middle of parkland - how relaxed does everyone seem? It just 'shouts' community to me.
No doubt this is the kind of place the Trbuhovich clan would frequent every Monday if it was nearby.

Petit Garcon is absolutely enamoured with birds....parrots to be exact. So, I am closing the week with a lovely little piece by Raymond Savignac celebrating the 'Festival of New Comedy' and Petit's artistic impression of birdlife. They both make me smile.
